'The Other Irene' at SEE Fest |
The South East European Film Festival in Los Angeles presents the West Coast Premiere of THE OTHER IRENE, directed by Andrei Gruzniczki
Don't miss the screening of THE OTHER IRENE, the Romanian film featured in the 2010 SEE in Los Angeles, and a direct encounter with leading actor Andi Vasluianu, whose attendance is made possible by RCINY.
"Sharing themes as it does with some of the finest European thrillers – such as the nerve-wrecking The Vanishing (George Sluizer, 1988) – it’s hard to believe 'The Other Irene' is, in fact, based on a true story. It reveals a political and bureaucratic landscape that is truly eerie. The clean cinematography... beautifully emphasizes the main character’s solitude and actor Andi Vasluianu performs the brooding desperation inside this antihero with incredible delicacy.” - Cambridge Film Festival.
Join the festival for many other great films proposing a diversity of perspectives on South East Europe, and coming from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, and the U.S.
This edition of the SEE Festival also includes a Youth Program, proposing an ambitious collection of videos by young artists across Eastern Europe dealing with the issue of profound but painful transition taking place in their societies, and a program of winning shorts by young artists and curated by ten Goethe Institut’s centers in Eastern Europe.
The festival is also offering, for the second year, a unique CONFERENCE that explores the business side of independent filmmaking: financing, producing and distributing; how co-productions between several countries are put together; what resources are currently available to filmmakers, and where to find them. The conference, inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of filmmakers who create great, powerful films with limited resources, features distinguished Hollywood entertainment industry participants, as well as professionals from South East Europe actively involved in the production and distribution of films in the U.S., with the participation of Corina Suteu, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York.
The conference is organized by the South East European Film Festival Los Angeles, sponsored by UCLA Center for European and Eurasian Studies, and co-sponsored by Center for Managing Enterprises in Media, Entertainment & Sports (MEMES) at UCLA Anderson. With additional support from Center for International Business Education and Research at UCLA Anderson.
