Andrei Şerban Traveling Academy (ASTA) - Staged Reading of FASTFORWARDREWIND (The Day After Tomorrow, the Day Before Yesterday), by Gianina Cărbunariu
After its series of workshops and presentations in 2007 with Deadly Confession, ASTA presents this December an exceptional reading of a recent play by Gianina Cărbunariu, one of the most celebrated young Romanian playwrights.
Launched in 2007 as a pilot-project, the Traveling Academy is an artistic lab developed under the innovative guidance of prominent director and inspiring teacher Andrei Şerban. For this presentation, Andrei Şerban works with a group of students from the graduating year of Columbia University's acting department.
The characters in FASTFORWARDREWIND live the present and the future in a continuum past tense, where situations like the following become the new everyday status of reality - "I remember this…object…not bigger than matchbox or a pack of cigarettes. Some kinda wires were attached to it. At their ends there’d be some sort of ear plugs, I guess. This was one of the most important gadgets of our century. We all wanted to be surrounded by sounds, music, vibrations, songs and words we liked. Nothing could take this pleasure away, not even the fact the Malaysian workers putting these things together were paid 50 dollars a month for 15 hour day shifts. It was called the Ipod."
