Sam Newsome and Lucian Ban Ensemble goes national with The Romanian-American Jazz Suite
RCINY and Jazzaway Records are proud to announce the release of The Romanian-American Jazz Suite by Sam Newsome & Lucian Ban Ensemble. The album presents a multi-movement work composed by American saxophonist Sam Newsome and Romanian pianist Lucian Ban, which combines Romanian folk music with American jazz.
The suite was written to represent the perspective of both an American jazz musician exploring Romanian folk music, and a Romanian jazz musician reinvestigating the music of his country after having lived in America for several years.
The group features an international cast of world class American and Romanian Jazz Musicians: Sam Newsome (soprano sax), Lucian Ban (piano), Alex Harding (bari sax & bass clarinet - July 1) / Abraham Burton (tenor sax - July 2, 3 & 8) , Willard Dyson (drums - July 1, 2 & 3) / Nasheet Waits (drums - July 8), Arthur Balogh (double bass - July 1, 2 & 3) / John Hebert (double bass - July 8), and Sorin Romanescu (leading guitar).
The CD has been released by Jazzaway Records and is distributed in the US by North Country Distributors.
