Theodor Grigoriu

Mr. Grigoriu (b. 1926) studied at the Academy of Music in Bucharest with Mihail Jora and at the Moscow Conservatory with Aram Hatchatourian. Mr. Grigoriu is one of the most prominent figures of European contemporary music, having published many books, studies and articles. His music – symphonic, vocal-symphonic, concertos, chamber, instrumental, choral, vocal – is performed all over the world and has been published by Editura Muzicală, Bucharest, Editions Transatlantiques, Paris and Larghetto, Amsterdam. His film music, amongst which “Codin” (1962) and “Forest of the Hanged” (1964) – both Romanian movies in competition at the Cannes Festival – was released in a CD collection by MCT, Paris. He was awarded the George Enescu Prize of the Romanian Academy, the Greatest National Award ”Opera Omnia”, the Gold Medal of the French Academy “Arts and Sciences”, and he is Member of the French Academy “Arts and Sciences Lettres”.
