Ciprian Costin

Born in 1988 in Iaşi (in the northeastern Romanian province of Moldavia), Ciprian Costin is the youngest of the nine composers of the"Under 30. Young Romanian Composers and Musicians at Merkin Concert Hall".

Costin’s vibrant, yet delicate expressive works reveal “subtle ways of expression developed after the post-romantic period of Scriabin or Rachmaninoff ” (composer Csiky Boldizsár). His seven-part piano suite Romanian Fairy Tales. Suite for Piano Solo in Romanian Folk Style (U.S. Premiered on the occasion of the "Under 30" concert) is comprised of movements that express powerful emotions with strong connections to Romanian history and the country’s national character, including the representative Romanian “doina” folk song.

Costin began studies at Boston’s Berklee College of Music in 2009, majoring in Film Scoring, and is also an accomplished computer science researcher, receiving Second Place in the Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition in 2005.
