![]() Born in 1941, actor, screenwriter and film director Mircea Veroiu was one of the most ingenious filmmakers of the 1970s generation. He directed, together with Dan Piţa, two remarkable films—The Stone Wedding and Lust for Gold—both inspired by the short stories of a Romanian classic author. He was one of the most prolific film directors of the time; by taking upon various subjects, many of which were literary adaptations, he was able to deal with the censorship’s rigid rules and release a new film practically every year. Towards mid-‘70s, he became interested in western films and took part in the development of the Ostern cinema phenomenon—a replica of the genre made in East European countries. Subsequently to the success of Adela, awarded with the 1985 San Remo Festival Grand Prize, he escaped to France in 1986. Upon his return after the Revolution and before his premature death in 1997, he directed three more films.
