Playwrights Before the Fall: Eastern European Drama in Times of Revolution
Presented by The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center in collaboration with the Czech Center, Hungarian Cultural Center, Polish Cultural Institute, Romanian Cultural Institute, and Consulate General of Slovenia
RCINY brings playwright Matei Visniec to the launch of the first multi-author international anthology of Eastern European plays written in the 1980s, published in English by Martin E. Segal Theatre Center. Together with Visniec's Horses at the Window ((successfully staged earlier this year by Trap Door Theatre in Chicago), the anthology the anthology features Sławomir Mrożek’s Portrait; Karel Steigerwald’s Sorrow, Sorrow, Fear, the Rope, and the Pit; Gyorgy Spiró’s Chickenhead; and Dušan Jovanović’s Military Secret. The event includes staged readings from the five plays featured in the anthology and a panel with the authors.
The anthology is edited by Daniel Gerould, and includes a preface by Dragan Klaić.
